Describe your show in a tweet-length description.
My show is called You Can Tell Me Anything —comedians confess something they've never told anyone before.
When did you start it and why?
I think secrets are one of the best ways to connect to someone. Maybe because once I know your secrets you will not want to wrong me. No, it's not out of spite, it's actually because I truly do think the act of getting something off your chest to someone who really wants to listen and hear where you're coming from is a strong bonding experience, and I love to force deep connections with people I admire so they will forever feel tied to me.
Who do you work with?
I work with Samee Junio, super producer! They have worked at Nerdist, Dynasty Typewriter, and reached out to me when they started their own podcast network.
If you were going to tell people to listen to ONE episode of your podcast right now, what would you recommend?
Listen to Anthony Atamanuik's episode about toxic masculinity! I truly loved that episode, it was so so vulnerable and honest and he's one of my idols.
Dream guest for your show?
Paul F. Tompkins! He has retweeted me a lot and I'm holding out hope one day he will walk into the podcast studio.
Who do you wish had a podcast?
My dad. What's that man up to? What does he think about my jokes about him? I'd love to know.
Can you remember any of the first podcasts you started listening to?
YES. I used to listen to Here's The Thing with Alec Baldwin and This American Life when I lived in New York, and I didn't know there were better podcasts out there. Actually This American Life is still great.
What do you hope your show does for people?
I hope it gives them an intimate look into the neurosis and anxieties we hold on to over the guilt we have in our lives, and help give folks the tools and language to talk about the things they keep inside. Truly though, I want people to laugh. Sometimes it gets serious. It often does. But it's all comedians and we know how to get on stage and make a dumb joke, and it shows that people are 3-d and you can make a pun about dogs one moment while simultaneously thinking about the time in 5th grade when you dropped your baby sister and didn't tell your parents because you were ashamed.
Care to shoutout a listener now?
I have this listener, Tony, who has supported the show in incredible ways - I launched a Confidant newsletter for bonus materials and you can get on it for $5, and he once sent me a lot more than that because I wanted to buy a new microphone and then I was able to take my equipment on the road with me to record at comedy festivals. Very cool person.
Give us a podcast recommendation.
I love honest podcasts. Girls Gotta Eat is a right mix of honest, entertaining, and goofy.
Thanks, Teresa!
